Cary B. Epes is executive vice president and chief credit officer of Old Point National Bank. A lifelong Peninsula resident, Epes served in the U.S. Army from 1968-71, including a tour in Vietnam. A 1977 graduate of CNU, Epes has spent his entire career in banking. He worked from 1973-1992 with United Virginia/Crestar/SunTrust, beginning as a branch manager and eventually managing six branches before moving into commercial loans. In 1992 he became chief credit officer of Old Point National Bank, where he is responsible for all areas of lending for the bank. Epes is responsible for building the bank’s loan portfolio from $150 million to more than $355 million. Epes is a member of the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Board and is past recipient of the Chamber’s Outstanding Financial Services Advocate Award for Small Business. He is the 2002 chairman of the board of the Hampton Roads Better Business Bureau; president of the Hampton Roads Chapter of Risk Management Association; treasurer and past president of Peninsula Habitat for Humanity and a commissioner with the Newport News Redevelopment & Housing Authority. He is active in People to People, serves on the revolving loan fund committee of the Newport News IDA and was a member of the CNU Alumni Society Board for six years. He is a member of the CNU School of Business Board of Advisors. He has been married for 33 years to Brenda Epes, and the couple has two adult children.
