Allen R. Jones, Jr. is a Licensed Physical Therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He is also owner and CEO of Dominion Physical Therapy & Associates, Inc., a company which he started in 1990 with 1 office and 2 employees, and has strategically expanded to include 6 offices with 40 employees in the Williamsburg, Newport News, Portsmouth and Hampton area, one of which is dedicated to treating children with disabilities. Prior to this position he was Associate Director of Peninsula Physical Therapy & Associates, and CEO of Jones Physical Therapy Home Health Services. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy in 1987, and holds a postgraduate certification in Clinical Management of Head, Facial, and Neck Pain, and TMJ Disorders from the American Academy of Head, Facial, and Neck Pain and TMJ Orthopedics.
Allen is active in numerous community and professional organizations including the American Physical Therapy Association, The American Academy of TMJ Orthopedics, Masons, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He is Chairman of the Newport News Industrial Development Authority, and Board Member of Norfolk State University Foundation Boards Annual Fund. He is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Mariners Museum, Virginia Living Museum and St. Andrew's Episcopal School. He is also a Board Member of South Trust Bank, Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and the Newport News Educational Foundation. He is an Advisory Board Member of the Hampton University's Doctoral Physical Therapy Program and Christopher Newport University's School of Business. In July 2002, Allen was appointed by Governor Warner to his One Virginia, One Future Economic Development Steering Committee. The committee consisted of a small group of key business and community leaders who examined critical economic development issues facing Virginia and identified innovative strategies to address those issues. Allen has recently been appointed, by Governor Warner to the Virginia Public Broadcasting Board, for a four year term beginning July 1, 2003- June 30, 2007.
Allen is also a past board member of many professional organizations, which include, the Newport News Board of Zoning Appeals, Peninsula Economic Development Council, Newport News Division of the Boy Scouts of America, Board of Directors for the City of Newport News Office of Human Affairs, United Way of Hampton Roads and, Chairman of Norfolk State University Foundation Boards Annual Fund, member of MedRisk Insurance Company's peer review, and was previously appointed to the Endview Task Force by the City Council of Newport News.
The 2001 A. Phillip Randolph Award was presented to Dominion Physical Therapy by the Urban League. The award recognizes cultural diversity in the work force.
Allen is a year 2000 recipient of the "Top 40, Under 40" award by Inside Business Magazine. Allen serves as a positive role model to the youth in our community by speaking to college and high school students on various subjects to include Physical Therapy as a career choice. He is a father of four and married to Hampton, VA native Gail Boyd Jones, who is a Physical Therapy Assistant and works in the practice.
